the subwaystation is a complex system of various underground spaces. between street level and the platforms exists a vast leftover void, not visual and not used.

this area is characterized by some ambivalent spatial qualities: its position is neither inside nor outside. neither cave nor hangar. its dimension is comparable to a courtyard, the precise surrounding is more like a room. the space symbolizes relaxation and contemplation next to dynamism, traffic and mobility. darkness and light. this unique situation defines the potential to visualize the relation between publicness and spatiality.
